NICEVILLE, FLA. – Junior Elio Lago and freshman Jan Galka each won two matches in the singles qualifying draw, representing Louisiana Men's Tennis over the weekend at a ITF USA F30 Futures tournament hosted in Niceville, Florida.

LAGO AND GALKA BATTLE: Lago began his weekend with a first round match with Serbia's Miodrag Popovic.  Lago controlled the match from start to finish, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 to advance in the draw.

His next match was against Felipe Carvalho from Brazil.  Lago once again dominated, taking down his fellow countryman in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.  The win set up a matchup with Alejandro Franco from Colombia.  Lago fought hard against Franco, but after winning the first set Lago faltered in the next two sets to drop the match 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Galka's weekend started with a match against Alexander Vishnevskiy from Russia, and the Louisiana freshman dispatched Vishnevskiy in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.  His next match turned out to be a tough three-set battle, when he faced Australia's Daniel Groom in the next match.

Against Groom, Galka battled hard and fought off a second set loss, to win the match in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to advance to the next round.  Galka's next opponent was Jakub Wojcik from the U.S.A., and Galka's tough match from earlier in the day allowed him to dig deep in the match, but after winning the first set Galka would fall in a third set tiebreaker to lose the match, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6(2).
