Baseball: Robichaux Announces Adjustments To Cajuns Coaching Staff

Jeff Schneider, Associate Director of Athletics Communications

LAFAYETTE, La. – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball head coach Tony Robichaux announced three adjustments to his coaching staff for the 2019 season on Friday, including the addition of new assistant coach Jake Wells.

Wells comes to the Ragin' Cajuns from Campbell and will serve as the new hitting coach for Louisiana Baseball. Prior to Campbell, Wells spent time as an assistant coach at Alabama (2017), Louisiana Tech (2015-16) and Mississippi State (2013-14), reaching the NCAA Tournament in four of his last six years including a trip to the College World Series Finals in 2013 with MSU.

Jeremy Talbot will assist with the hitters while also continuing to bring in top-rated classes to Louisiana as the Recruiting Coordinator. Talbot will also coach the defense which finished 11th in the nation in 2018.

Anthony Babineaux will assume a new role with the program as Associate Head Coach/Director of Player and Program Development, and will focus on the day-to-day operations. Babineaux will continue to put together some of  the best non-conference schedules in the nation, coordinate travel and student-athlete eligibility, while also handling player relations and all areas of program development. He will serve as the staff's liaison to Coach Robichaux by providing coordination and planning between the Baseball staff and the senior administrative staff.  Babineaux will also serve as the primary liaison between the Baseball office and the athletics business office, the compliance office and other departmental offices.

"These adjustments will help our program tremendously as we align our staff to best fit their strong suits," Robichaux said. "I felt this move was also important for student-athlete welfare to make sure that we continue to bring in the best young men and develop them to be successful individuals when they leave here. The best way to do that is to surround them with great coaches, and I feel that we have accomplished that with this coaching staff."

Additionally, Daniel Freeman will return for his fifth season as the Volunteer Assistant and continue to work with the pitching staff and assist Talbot and Wells with recruiting, while Chris Domingue remains as the Academic Coordinator and Camp Director.
