A native of New Iberia, David Miles Gosnell, III was born on February 20, 1943 to the late Theresa Cortese Gosnell and David "Dutch" Miles Gosnell, II.  He coached football at St. Louis High School in Lake Charles, and also played and coached at USL, where he later became an Associate Dean of Students.  Miles was also a general contractor, having owned and operated Gosnell Construction Company for many years.  He enjoyed salt-water fishing and playing tennis, but what brought him the most joy was spending time with his family "down the bayou" on Bayou Lafourche.

Miles is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Susan Theriot Gosnell; sons, Monty Gosnell of Lafayette, and Scott Gosnell (Amy) of Baton Rouge; daughter, Cheramie Gosnell of Irving, TX; brothers, Allen Gosnell (Lynette) of New Iberia, Chester Gosnell (Myra) of Lafayette, and Henry Gosnell of Lewiston, ID; sisters, Mary Druhot (Stephen) of Leesburg, VA, and Cheryl Delcambre (Wayne) of Youngsville; and grandchildren, Grant Gosnell, Braeden Landry, McKenzie Gosnell, and Griffin Gosnell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rachel Cheramie Gosnell.

Pallbearers will be Monty Gosnell, Scott Gosnell, Chester Gosnell, Randy Cheramie, Wayne Delcambre, Roland Theriot, Allen Gosnell, Laurence Smith, and Todd Cheramie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St. Suite 200, Lafayette, La 70503, Lafayette, LA 70506, who took such wonderful care of Miles.

Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd., New Iberia, LA 70560, (337-365-3331) is in charge of arrangements.

It was a pleasure to work with Miles in an associated manner while he was on the Student Personnel staff and I was on the HPE faculty. He gave his all to any assignments or responsibilities and always had the best long-term interests of our students in mind.

Our condolences to his family and friends. Special appreciation is expressed to Jimmy Porche' for making the AN aware of Miles' passing.
