Softball: Ragin' Cajuns Add Transfer Bailey Curry to 2019 Roster

Led Toledo in every major offensive category in 2018 and was among top freshmen sluggers nationwide

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball head coach Gerry Glasco announced the addition of Bailey Curry on Tuesday, a transfer from Toledo who was the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Freshman of the Year and one of the nation's top freshman sluggers in 2018.

The rising sophomore infielder, also named to the NFCA All-Great Lakes Region team, led Toledo in average (.362), hits (64), home runs (14), RBI (46), walks (34), slugging (.633) and on-base percentage (.465) during her collegiate debut campaign.

Curry's 14 home runs established a new single-season record for the Rockets, eclipsing the standard which had stood since 1990. She also ranked Top 10 nationally in home runs hit by a freshman.

"Bailey will bring a strong powerful bat for the middle of our lineup," Glasco remarked. "She is also a great clutch hitter who hits for a high average.

"She was among the top run-producing freshmen in the Division I ranks last spring," Glasco added. "We believe she will have a dramatic impact on our team scoring next spring."

The Frankfort, Ky., native ranked Top 150 nationally in hits, home runs per game, RBI per game, total bases, slugging percentage and walks.

A three-time Eighth Region Player of the Year and first team all-state selection for Anderson County High School, Curry finished her prep career with a Kentucky state-record 75 home runs.

The Ragin' Cajuns (41-16, 21-6 Sun Belt) completed their first season under Gerry Glasco's guidance in 2018, earning the program's 20th consecutive NCAA Tournament bid and advancing to the championship game of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional.

Louisiana reached 40 wins for the 20th straight season and was ranked in both major national Top 25 polls the entire season, finishing No. 18/19 in the final edition of the rankings.
