Football: Dotson And Ragas Named To Preseason All-Sun Belt Teams

David Collins, Athletics Communications Assistant

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Football is right around the corner, and fall camp is less than two weeks away. In anticipation of the 2018 season, the Sun Belt Conference released its Preseason All-Sun Belt Teams, with junior offensive linemen Kevin Dotson (First Team Offense) and sophomore running back Trey Ragas (Second Team Offense) earning recognition.

DOTSON'S A MACHINE UP FRONT: Dotson has been a force for Louisiana up front for the past three seasons and being named Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team Offense is the third SBC honor of Dotson's career. He was named to the 2016 Sun Belt Conference All-Newcomer Team and was named Second-Team All-Sun Belt Conference following the 2017 season.

Dotson earned the starting job at right guard during the second week of the 2016 season and has not given it up since. He's a pillar of consistency making 24 straight starts for the Ragin' Cajuns over the past two seasons, and the entire Louisiana backfield has felt more comfortable knowing that big No. 75 will be there every Saturday.

RAGAS RUNS TO THE TOP: Louisiana's 2017 leading rusher, finishing with 813 yards on the ground, Ragas being named to Preseason All-Sun Belt Second Team Offense now makes it two SBC honors, having been named Third-Team All-Sun Belt Conference after the 2017 season.

Ragas' production, including a huge game against New Mexico State that saw him score twice on the ground while running for 132 yards on 23 carries, helped Louisiana finish with the third highest rushing total in the SBC following the 2017 season. His hard hat mentality towards running the football allowed Ragas to finish tied for first in the conference in average yards per carry (5.7) and that work ethic, along with Louisiana's experience up front, means Ragas will be a force to handle for throughout 2018.

FOURTH IN THE WEST: The 2018 season marks the first-ever time the Sun Belt Conference has split the conference into two five-team divisions with Louisiana playing in the Western division along with Arkansas State, ULM, South Alabama and Texas State. Following a poll taken by the coaches throughout the conference, Louisiana was picked to finish fourth in the Western division.

Arkansas State was picked to finish first, ULM second and South Alabama third. Texas State was picked to finish behind Louisiana in fifth place.

Fans are encouraged to join head coach Billy Napier and the Ragin' Cajuns at Cajun Field not just on Sept. 1, but for all six 2018 home games and tickets are on sale now.
