Women's Tennis: Cajuns Finish Regular Season With Loss At Tulane
NEW ORLEANS – In their final match before the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Championships, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team lost to the Tulane Green Wave, 4-1, Friday afternoon at the UNO Tennis Center.
The loss wraps up the Cajuns regular season and they finish with a record of 14-10. While the Green Wave extend their winning streak to four matches, improving their record to 12-10.
Despite not getting a win in singles, Louisiana did get two wins in doubles, with the freshmen pairing of Morgan Forshag and Floriane Picaut snagging a win along with the Cajuns best doubles duo in 2018, senior Kelly Drew and sophomore Marina Rodriguez Garcia. For Drew and Garcia their record together improved to 11-4 and they've gone 8-2 in their last 10 matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Doubles): The Cajuns had to comeback in doubles, but they accomplished the comeback winning the final two doubles matches to take the doubles point. But they started it off with a loss at No. 1 when the pairing of senior Abby Johnson and Dana Radovanovic lost to Tulane's duo of Atkinson and Fabrizi, 6-0.
Louisiana then locked in and they started their doubles comeback with a win at No. 3 when Forshag and Picaut took down the Green Wave duo of Kurtz and Le Fuente, 6-0. The point then came down to the match at No. 2 and the Cajuns took care of business, when Drew and Garcia won, 6-3, against Tulane's duo of Alvaro and Muller.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): Louisiana took a 1-0 lead into singles play, but they couldn't hold their lead, dropping the next four singles matches to drop the match. Tulane's first win came at No. 5 when Elena Muller beat Garcia, 6-2, 6-1 to make it 1-1.
No. 4 was the next match to finish, when Johnson lost to Tulane's Daniela La Fuente in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Tulane then got one win away from clinching the match by taking the match at No. 1. In that match Drew lost to Tulane's Sade Atkinson, 6-4, 6-4, and it put the score at 3-1 in Tulane's favor.
The match was clinched by Tulane when they won at No. 6, 6-2, 6-4, with Christina Sisti beating Louisiana's Forshag. It gave Tulane the win, wrapping things up with the Green Wave leading 4-1.
UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: Louisiana now moves onto the SBC Women's Tennis Championships, with seeding being announced early next week and the first round kicking off in Peachtree City, Ga., on April 19.
