Baseball: Arkansas State Runs Away From Cajuns To Claim Series

JONESBORO, Ark. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team fell to Arkansas State 14-2 on Friday night at Tomlinson Stadium.
 
Starter Nick Lee was tagged with his third loss of the year for the Ragin' Cajuns (11-15, 2-6 SBC) as he gave up eight runs (six earned) on a career-high 10 hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 6.0 innings.
 
Nate Alberius claimed the victory for the Red Wolves (11-12, 3-5 SBC) tossing a complete game while limiting Louisiana to two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts.
 
Arkansas State outhit Louisiana 14-7 in the game. The loss marks the six straight series loss for the Ragin' Cajuns this season.
  
LEADING THE CAJUNS
 
Junior Daniel Lahare went 2-for-3 with a home run to lead the Cajuns offensively, while freshman Hayden Cantrelle extended his hit streak to 10 games going 2-for-4.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
The Ragin' Cajuns scored first in the top of the second inning when Zach LaFleur brought home Kennon Fontenot on an RBI ground out to shortstop to make the score 1-0.
 
Arkansas State evened the game at 1-all in the bottom half of the inning on a two-out RBI infield single by Casey Vaughan.
 
The Red Wolves exploded for four runs in the bottom of the third on three hits and a hit batter to jump out to a 5-1 advantage. A two-run double by Kyle MacDonald highlighted the scoring in the inning.
 
A-State increased its advantage to 7-1 in the bottom of the fifth on a pair of RBI singles by Jeremy Brown and Andrew Leggo.
 
The Cajuns and Red Wolves traded runs in the sixth as Lahare registered his first home run of the season with a solo shot to right field.
 
Arkansas State tacked on six more runs in the bottom of the seventh to make the final 14-2.
 
UP NEXT
 
Louisiana and Arkansas State close out the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Tomlinson Stadium. Senior left-hander Colten Schmidt will make the start for the Cajuns and face off against A-State right-hander Peyton Culbertson.
