Men's Tennis: Ragin' Cajuns Sweep PVAMU In Doubleheader On Senior Day

 David Collins, Athletics Communications Assistant

Vlad Kramarov

LAFAYETTE – Without dropping a match, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns won their fifth and sixth straight matches in a senior day doubleheader sweep of the Prairie View A&M Panthers, 7-0, 6-0, to improve their Sun Belt Conference best record to 17-8.
Senior Vlad Kramarov had a great finish to his career at Cajun Courts, winning both of his matches, including taking his second match at No. 1.  Junior Arthur Libaud, sophomores Pearse Dolan, Elio Lago and freshman Nico Sojka all got two wins on the day in singles.
And sophomore Jamie Fraser and freshman Dominik Koenig each added a win to give the Cajuns a 10-1 record at home in the final home match of the 2018 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Doubles): The Cajuns got senior day started with a win in doubles when they took both of their matches in dominating fashion.  The first win came at No. 3 when Sojka and Dolan took down the Panthers pairing Ugarteche and Reyna without dropping a game, 6-0.
Louisiana then wrapped up the doubles point when at No. 2 Libaud and Fraser took down the Panthers' duo of Yadav and Yoshikata, 6-3, to give the Cajuns the doubles point and a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): The Cajuns would take all six singles matches without dropping a set, and Sojka, at No. 1, set the pace blowing by PVAMU's Ulrick Boyogueno, 6-0, 6-1, to quickly put the Cajuns up 2-0.  Following Sojka's win, at No. 3, was Libaud who took down PVAMU's Anirudh Yadav, 6-0, 6-2 to put the Cajuns one win away from locking up the day.
That clinching win came at No. 5 when Dolan beat Zachary Suico in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2 to give the Cajuns a 4-0 win and it locked up the Cajuns fifth straight win.  The two teams played out things and Fraser got the next win for the Cajuns at No. 6 when he took down Kevin Ugarteche, 6-1, 6-3.
The final two wins of the day for the Cajuns came first at No. 2 when Lago beat PVAMU's Xavier Lawernce in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 and Louisiana wrapped up the first match with a straight set win, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 when Kramarov beat Taqel Lewis to give the Cajuns a 7-0 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): Louisiana got their final home match of the 2018 season with a win and the victory parade began at No. 4 when Sojka took down Boyogueno in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 to put the Cajuns up 1-0 right off the bat.  Kramarov then snagged his second win of the day on senior day, by taking down PVAMU's Lewis in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 to finish off his career at Cajun Courts with a bang.
Dolan then added to the Cajuns lead with a win at No. 5 over the Panthers' Suico, 6-0, 6-4 and Libuad's clinching win at No. 3 against Yadav, 6-2, 6-1, locked up Louisiana's second win of the day.  But the hits kept coming for Louisiana when at No. 2 locked up his second win of the day over PVAMU's Lawernce, 6-2, 6-1, to put the Cajuns up 5-0.
The final match of the day was also the longest, as Koenig had to storm back from a first set loss, to beat PVAMU's Ugarteche in a three-set battle, 5-7, 6-3, 10-5.  After dropping the first set, Koenig roared through the second set to set up a 10-point tiebreaker to decide the match.
Things went back and forth to start the breaker, but after it was tied up at 3-3, Koenig took control of the set.  He ripped off four straight points to put the score at 7-3, and he won three out of the next four points to wrap up the match and the Cajuns 6-0 win, making it six straight for the Cajuns.

NOTEWORTHY: Lago's two wins gives him 13 straight wins and he sits at 16-6 in singles; Kramarov extended his winning streak to three straight to improve his singles record to 15-8; Libuad now has a seven-match winning streak and that streak has improved his singles record to 12-9.
Dolan is 15-4 in singles and he's won five straight matches; Sojka sits at 11-4 and he owns a three-match winning streak; Fraser's win was his fourth straight (9-10 in singles); Koenig's match was the first he's played since Mar. 2 at UTSA and it's his first win since Jan. 14.

UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: Louisiana wraps up the 2018 season on the road with two final matches.  First the Cajuns will visit the Georgia Southern Eagles on Tuesday, Apr.3 and they'll finish the season with a visit to the No. 60 Georgia State Panthers on Friday, Apr. 6.
