LAKE CHARLES, La. – In only their third match on the road this season, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team dropped their match at the McNeese State Cowgirls, 7-0, in the I-10 Rivalry at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

The loss drops the Cajuns record to 7-3 on the season, with two of those losses coming on the road, while the Cowgirls improve to 4-0 having won their third straight match of the weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Doubles): Louisiana dropped the doubles point, when the Cajuns duo of seniors Abby Johnson and Elena Sava lost to the Cowgirl pair of Jurakova/Brett, 6-1, at No. 1.  And at No. 3 the Cajuns' senior Kelly Drew and sophomore Marina Rodriguez Garcia lost to the McNesse pairing of Erlandsson and Chitdara with the same score of 6-1.  The two losses gave McNeese State a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): Louisiana lost all six matches in straight sets, but at No. 1 and No. 6 the Cajuns had a chance to push things to a third set.  At No. 1 Drew fought through her second set and it was decided in a tiebreaker, but Drew lost to McNeese's Giovanna Fioretti, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1).  While at No. 6 Johnson had matched Drew's performance of forcing a second set tiebreaker, but she dropped her match as well, losing to the Cowgirls' Phonexay Chitdara 6-1, 7-6 (7-2).

At No. 2 Cajuns freshman Floriane Picaut lost to McNeese State's Sarah Jurakova, 6-2, 6-3 and at No. 3 fellow freshman Dana Radovanovic dropped her match against Hannah Brett, 6-2, 6-0.  IN the bottom half of the lineup at No. 4, Sava lost in straight sets to the Cowgirls' Manja Mastilovic, 6-3, 7-5 while at No. 5 Garcia lost to Charloine Erlandsson, 6-4, 6-3, to give McNeese State the 7-0 sweep of the Cajuns.

UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: Louisiana returns to Cajun Courts with a late week matchup against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday, Feb. 22 with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.  That match kicks off a three-match home stand and they'll welcome in Southern Miss., on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. and they'll finish off the home stand by hosting their first Sun Belt Conference opponent of the season when South Alabama comes into town on Thursday, Mar. 1.
