LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team lost their first match of the season in heartbreaking fashion, as the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters completed the comeback to win the match 4-3 at Cajun Courts.

The loss drops the Cajuns record to 6-1, but it still remains the best start the Cajuns have had in over a decade.  While for Louisiana Tech it's their first win of the season and their record evens out at 1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Doubles): In doubles the Cajuns quickly took a 1-0 lead over the Lady Techsters and it started at No. 1 when seniors Elena Sava and Abby Johnson took down the Louisiana Tech pair of Cota/Perez-Lopez without dropping a game, 6-0.  At No. 3, the Cajuns wrapped the doubles point up with a win from the duo of senior Kelly Drew and sophomore Marina Rodriguez Garcia when they defeated the Lady Techsters' pairing of Oravcova and De La Luz, 6-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): Drew swept through her opponent at No. 1, with a straight set win, 6-2, 6-0, against Louisiana Tech's Claudia Oravcova to give the Cajuns a 2-0 lead in the score.  At No. 3 the Lady Techsters got on the board with a straight set win at No. 3 when Nadja Monjon took her match against Cajuns' sophomore Dana Radovanovic, 6-1, 6-1.

The score sat at 2-1 with the Cajuns still in the lead, but Louisiana Tech again chipped into the Cajuns lead tying things up with a win at No. 6 when Paulina Cota beat the hard charging Garcia, 6-4, 7-6 (4).  Louisiana Tech then took a short-lived lead at No. 4 when Sonia Chen beat the Cajuns Sava, 6-4, 7-5 to put the Lady Techsters up 3-2.

But shortly after that, at No. 2, Cajuns freshman Floriane Picaut gave the Cajuns a big win, when she held off Louisiana Tech's Andrea Perez-Lopez, to win in three-sets 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 to again tie things up at 3-3.  Things came down to the match at No. 5, between the Cajuns' Johnson and Louisiana Tech's Karla De La Luz.

It was there that the Lady Techsters gave the Cajuns their first loss of the season when De La Luz beat Johnson in a three-set battle, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.  Johnson put up a great fight and didn't go down easily, but it wasn't enough as after that match the final score sat at 4-3 with the Cajuns sitting on the losing side.

NOTEWORTHY: Picaut's three-set win was the first in her spring career.

UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: Louisiana hits the road for the first time this season, when they travel to Incarnate Word, on Friday, Feb. 9 and they have a quick turnaround and will face off with Texas A&M in College Station, Texas on Saturday, Feb. 10.
