Men's Tennis: Louisiana Drops Match At LSU - Xavier Doubleheader Match Moved to Friday

By: David Collins, Athletics Communications Assistant

BATON ROUGE, LA. – In their last match before opening up Cajun Courts for the 2018 season, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team lost to the LSU Tigers, 4-2, here at the LSU Tennis Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Doubles): LSU started off the doubles winning at No. 2 when the Tigers pairing of Moreno/Wagner beat the Cajuns duo of junior Arthur Libaud and sophomore Jamie Fraser 6-2.  At No. 3 Louisiana snagged a match when the sophomore Pearse Dolan and freshman Pierce Gilheany continued their great start to the spring season as a pair, winning their third match together in the first two weeks of the season, 6-3, when they beat the LSU duo of Monroe/Block.

But LSU would win at No. 1, 6-2, when the Cajuns pair of senior Vlad Kramarov and sophomore Elio Lago lost to the Tigers duo of Csonka/Saborio to give LSU the 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): Kramarov got the Cajuns on the board at No. 4 with a dominating straight set win, 6-1, 6-2, over LSU's Nikola Samardzic to get the Cajuns on the board early in the singles play.  Gilheany gave the Cajuns a lead midway through singles play, with a solid straight set win at No. 6, 6-2, 6-3, against LSU's Agie Moreno.  But LSU tied it back up at 2-2, when Shane Monroe beat Fraser 6-3, 6-3.

At No. 2, Lago dropped his match to LSU's Gabor Csonka in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 to put LSU back up by one with the score sitting at 3-2.  The Tigers wrapped up the match when Libaud lost to LSU's Rafael Wagner at No. 3, 7-6(7-4), 6-4 and the final score finished up at 4-2 with LSU coming away with the win.

NOTEWORTHY: The Cajuns pairing of Dolan/Gilheany are now 3-0 during the spring season, having won against Mercer and Rice to go along with their victory today against LSU; Gilheany has yet to lose a match this spring and he sits at 3-0; Kramarov improves to 3-2 in the spring season.

UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: The Cajuns open up their home schedule this weekend with a doubleheader against Xavier (La.) on Saturday, Jan. 27.  The first match, starting at 10 a.m. will be played on Bourgeois Courts and the second half of the doubleheader will start at 2 p.m. and will be played on Cajun Courts.
