Softball: Rodriguez to Join Ragin' Cajuns For 2018 Season


LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball head coach Gerry Glasco announced that Brittany Rodriguez, a three-time first team all-conference performer, has transferred to play for the Ragin' Cajuns in the 2018 season.
Rodriguez comes to Louisiana from Lamar where she hit .380-plus and was a first team All-Southland Conference selection each of the past two seasons.
The Cypress, Texas native is an outfielder. She will be entering her senior season in 2018.
58250Over two seasons at Lamar, Rodriguez collected 151 hits on a .390 average, scored 81 runs, collected 30 stolen bases and recorded 24 outfield assists.
"I am very familiar with type of athlete Brittany is having watched her play in travel ball and at Galveston College and Lamar while I was at Texas A&M," Glasco mentioned. "She will bring swagger and talent to our team on both offense and defense with her speed, intensity and athleticism.
"She is a fast and talented athlete that plays the game hard," Glasco added. "We are very excited to welcome Brittany to the University of Louisiana and Ragin' Cajuns Softball."
Rodriguez hit .388 and led Lamar with a .502 slugging percentage and .446 on base percentage in picking up a second straight first team All-SLC award in 2017. She set a school single-season record with 81 hits and led the Cardinals with 11 outfield assists.
Rodriguez hit .382 in the National Invitational Softball Championship, helping LU win its regional and finish second nationally.
In her debut Division I season in 2016, Rodriquez set LU single-season records with 70 hits, a 20-game hitting streak and a 26-game string of reaching base safely. She posted a team-best .393 batting average and was named to the all-tournament squad at Southland Conference Tournament.
The Cypress Woods High product played her freshman season at Galveston College, where she earned first team all-conference and all-region honors during the 2015 season. She hit .348 with two home runs, 19 RBIs, 42 runs scored and 42 stolen bases.
The 2018 season marks the first for Louisiana with head coach Gerry Glasco, formerly the associate head coach at Auburn, Texas A&M and Georgia, who was named the fourth head coach of the Ragin' Cajuns on Nov. 20, 2017.
