Louisiana Revamps Student-Athlete Leadership Program - Geaux Cajuns Program unveiled
Geaux Cajuns Program, formerly the Champs Life Skills Program, is designed to prepare student-athletes for success in future endeavors
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Athletics unveiled Tuesday the Geaux Cajuns Program, a rebrand of the Champs Life Skills program, designed to inspire leadership and citizenship in the department's 375-plus student-athletes.
Focused on advancing student-athletes outside of the athletic arena, the Geaux Cajuns Program's components will assist the individual with his or her transition into life after intercollegiate athletics and assist in facilitating their overall growth and development.
"We believed it was critical to rebrand a program that has empowered and educated our student-athletes for years," Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Director of Athletics Dr. Bryan Maggard said. "The Geaux Cajuns Program continues to focus on leadership and citizenship development, while engaging student-athletes, coaches and our community."
The main pillars of the program include:
- Offer service experiences and advocate for increased student-athlete involvement on campus and in the community.
- Develop student-athletes as responsible representatives and leaders.
- Enhance career readiness and provide resources that prepare student-athletes for professional life after college.
- Focus on the development of the well-rounded student-athlete.
Health and Wellness
- Commit to overall student-athlete well-being and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
The program's goal is to empower the student-athletes to begin the process of developing as professionals by recognizing, improving and building a professional skill set.
The athletics department will provide student-athletes with the various tools, techniques and support to achieve their goals and equip them with the resources to overcome challenges associated with change and transition.
"Our primary goal as coaches and administrators is to graduate our student-athletes and prepare them to be successful both athletically and in the game of life," Deputy Director of Athletics/SWA Dr. Jessica Leger stressed. "This program ensures that every student-athlete will experience education and development opportunities in a wide variety of pressing issues over a four-year period."
