Volleyball: Bartczyszyn Receives Sun Belt Setter of the Week Award
Louisiana's senior setter handed out 40-plus assists three times highlighted by her season-and Sun Belt-high 57 vs. Jax State
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball senior setter Jessica Bartczyszyn was named the Sun Belt Conference Setter of the Week for matches played Aug. 28-Sept. 3, the league office announced on Monday.
Bartczyszyn dished out 40-plus assists three times, pushed her career assists total past 2,000 and recorded the most assists by a Sun Belt setter this season with 57 in a four-set win over Jacksonville State that clinched a 3-1 mark in the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic.
The Cary, Ill., native received her first career weekly Sun Belt award. She is the first Ragin' Cajun to receive a weekly SBC honor at the setter position since Andrea Hole claimed a pair of awards in 2014.
Bartczyszyn totaled 199 assists and averaged 11.06 per set over Louisiana's five matches last week which included a midweek match at Southern Miss and the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic.
She averaged at least 10.50 assists per set each match of the Sawyer Camillo Classic in directing the Ragin' Cajuns to 14.47 kills per set and a .252 hitting percentage in the event.
When the graduate senior setter collected her 2,000th career assist in the win over Jacksonville State, she became the fourth Ragin' Cajuns setter who has played an entire career in the rally scoring era to reach the mark (joins Kendra Hall, Andrea Hole and Mandi Gavin).
The 57 assists against JSU were two shy of her career-high 59 set against Little Rock last season on Sept. 30, 2016 in Little Rock.
The Ragin' Cajuns travel to Houston for the Rice Invitational set for Sept. 8-9 at Tudor Fieldhouse on the campus of Rice University. Louisiana opens tournament play on Friday at 10 a.m. against host-Rice.
