Golf: Louisiana Golf Announces 2017-18 Schedule

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team will take part in four tournaments this fall and 12 overall highlighted by trips to the Louisville Cardinal Challenge and the Princeville Makai Intercollegiate as head coach Theo Sliman announced the 2017-18 schedule on Sunday.
"We are very excited to announce our 2017-18 schedule and would like to start by thanking our University for their support and the opportunity ahead for our team," Sliman said. "Each and every year we strive to improve our schedule, and I am very pleased with the work over the last six months to do just that. Our guys are here to compete and we certainly have great competition ahead with the schedule that we will face this year.
"We will be tested this fall as we will be traveling outside of our region which will expose our games to diverse golf courses highlighted with our season ending in Hawaii against a large and strong field. Again we have a busy spring packed with travel, but it is spaced out nicely. The spring schedule is a familiar one for us with the only addition being the tournament in Lake Charles. Each and every tournament we will face top ranked teams which will give us the opportunity to establish ourselves with a top ranking come the end of regular season, which hopefully will lead to our ultimate goal of an NCAA berth."
For the ninth straight year the Ragin' Cajuns will open the season at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate on Sept. 11-12 at Hattiesburg Country Club.
Trips to the Louisville Cardinal Challenge (Sept. 29-Oct. 1) Franklin American Mortgage Intercollegiate (Oct. 8-10) and Warrior Princeville Makai Intercollegiate (Oct. 29-31) round out the fall schedule for the Cajuns.
After taking three months off from competition, Louisiana opens the spring slate on Feb. 12-13 at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate. The Cajuns then return home to host the 33rd annual Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club from Feb. 26-27.
The Cajuns will compete at the Border Olympics (March 9-10), Lone Star Invitational (March 19-20), Lake Charles Invitational (March 26-27) and Southern Collegiate Match Play (March 31) before closing out the regular season at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship (April 16-17).
The 2018 Sun Belt Conference Golf Championship will be held at the Raven Golf Course in Destin, Fla. for the third consecutive year on April 22-24.
"This is a challenging schedule for a young group that is looking for leadership," Sliman added. "I am fully expecting the returners in the lineup to help and lead the newcomers as they will be tested early and often. I am confident that if we play up to our potential we will be in the hunt for a conference championship and a trip to the NCAA tournament."
