Softball: DJ Sanders Celebrated in Her Hometown for 2017 Success
COLUMBUS, Miss. – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball rising senior DJ Sanders was presented with a resolution from the Lowndes (Miss.) County Board of Supervisors in her hometown of Columbus, Miss., recognizing her as one of the nation's best college softball players.
The resolution, presented to Sanders by District 3 supervisor John Holliman on Monday, July 31, recognized her accomplishments from the 2017 season.
A Top 10 finalist for USA Softball Player of the Year, first team NFCA All-American and the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, Sanders turned in a career-best offensive performance during her junior campaign. The Ragin' Cajuns shortstop hit a team-and career-best .388 with career-high totals in home runs (29) and RBI (82) and led the nation in every major hitting category.
The resolution, dated June 5, states: "Whereas DJ Sanders has distinguished herself in the sport of fast pitch softball by leading the nation in home runs, runs batted in, slugging percentage and was named a first team All-American in Division I fast pitch softball; Whereas DJ Sanders began her softball career at New Hope High School; Whereas DJ Sanders has been a source of great pride to her community. Be it therefore resolved, the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors commends the achievements of DJ Sanders and wishes her much success in her future endeavors."
