Louisiana hosts SEC-member Ole Miss and has a three-match homestand over final two weekends of conference play
LAFAYETTE - The 2017 season for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team features an 18-match schedule that includes all non-conference matches held in the Louisiana-Texas region, a home date with Ole Miss and five home Sun Belt matches including a visit from four-time defending league champion South Alabama.
The 13th season under the guidance of head coach Scot Wieland kicks off at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility the weekend of Aug. 11-13 with an Alumni Match on Friday and an exhibition match with Mississippi Valley on Sunday.
Regular season play starts on the road with matches at Baylor (Aug. 18) and Lamar (Aug. 20) on opening weekend. Louisiana visits I-10 neighbor McNeese on Aug. 25 before making its regular season home debut.
The 2017 home schedule kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 27 vs. Ole Miss. The Ragin' Cajuns host an SEC opponent for the first time since LSU visited in Aug. 2011.
Non-conference play concludes the first two weekends in September. During the stretch the Ragin' Cajuns play road matches on Friday and host Northwestern State (Sept. 3) and Nicholls (Sept. 10) on Sunday.
The 10-match Sun Belt Conference portion of the season opens the weekend of Sept. 15-17 with the Arkansas road trip. The following Sunday (Sept. 24), the Ragin' Cajuns face Georgia Southern in the SBC home opener.
Louisiana starts October with three consecutive road matches – Oct. 1 at Georgia State and Oct. 6-8 at ULM and Texas State, respectively – before having the home field advantage for the final three matches as the race for seeding in the Sun Belt Championship heats up.
The season-ending homestand at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility begins Sunday, Oct. 15 vs. Appalachian State, continues with a Friday night match against four-time SBC champion South Alabama (Oct. 20) and concludes on Sunday, Oct. 22 when Louisiana meets Troy on Senior Day at 1 p.m.
The Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Championship returns to the Foley (Ala.) Sports Tourism Complex and is scheduled for Nov. 1-5. It's the second straight season the event is held at a neutral site. More information on the facility can be found by visiting FoleySportsTourism.com.
