On Dec. 12, 1970, 43 years ago last Thursday,  the Cajuns experienced their only bowl game loss. In 2011 and 2012, the team won both of the New Orleans Bowl games.

Please click here to view the story by J. C. Hatcher published in the Advertiser on Dec. 13, 1970.

Please click here to view the story about the first bowl game, the Oil Bowl,  played in Houston on Jan. 1, 1943, which was won by the Bulldogs over Arkansas A & M, a team which had played SLI to a 20-20 deadlock earlier in the season.

If you have a newspaper story of a historic SLI, USL, UL-Lafayette game - between 1901 - 2002, please email athleticnetwork@louisiana.edu and identify the story in the clipping, while providing the date and source. We will reply immediately.

Click here to view the stories of the Dec. 21, 1901 game vs. Opelousas High School and the return game played in Jan., 1902.

These historical accounts are all part of our rich athletic history and traditions.
