Women's Tennis: Louisiana Keeps Streak Alive Despite Close Match

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Women's Tennis found a way to win at Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday evening, beating the Lions by a score of 4-3. The win moves the Ragin' Cajuns up to 7-0. This is the first time the Louisiana Women's Tennis team has started 7-0 since 2007.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns started by losing the doubles point and the first singles match, giving SLU a 2-0 lead.
 
First to win for Louisiana was Clara Mantaux, defeating Polina Sleptsova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. SLU then won the next match to take a 3-1 lead. With their backs against the wall, the Ragin' Cajuns had to find another gear to keep the winning streak alive.
 
Louisiana won the next point when Dana Radovanovic beat SLU's Ximena Yanex in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Tying the match at 3-3, and giving Louisiana hope was Mariona Noguera, beating Putri Insani 7-6, 7-5.
 
Clinching the Louisiana win was Lucie Raquin. After losing the first set, she followed it up by winning the next two sets to find herself a win. Raquin took down Flory Bierma 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. The win extended the Ragin' Cajun's winning streak to seven matches and a perfect 7-0 start to the season.
 
Louisiana Women's Tennis will continue the road swing when they take on McNeese State on Tuesday, Feb. 18th at 3 p.m. in Lake Charles, La.
