Women’s Tennis: Gordon Leads UL to 4-2 Win Over FAU
Senior Mia Gordon played a major role as Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s tennis team wrapped up a three-day trip to Florida with a win at conference foe, Florida Atlantic, on Sunday, 4-2.
"It’s great to end a trip with a victory," said UL head women’s coach Greg Harkins. "Mia’s point was crucial. It’s always great to see a senior step up and follow through with a win." The Cajuns (5-4) jumped out early on the Owls (2-6), winning the first three matches. Audrey Wooland, Julie Mazinova and Milou Israel won the first three matches in straight sets. FAU rallied to capture the next two matches but needed three sets to do so against Briggit Marcovich and Sandra Ahlqvist. Then in final match of the day, Gordon faced off against Erika Mrazkova in the no. 6 spot. Gordon dropped the first set 0-6 before winning the second set 6-4. The match then came down to the third set. Gordon, down 4-5, broke Mrazkova and went on to claim the match 7-5. Doubles were not played to due travel restrictions. The Cajuns will now have the week off before traveling to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on Southern Miss on Friday. First serve is set for 2 p.m. CT.
