Volleyball: Ragin’ Cajuns To Host Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic

Louisiana to face Nicholls State on Friday; Alcorn State and Houston on Saturday

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana volleyball team opens its home schedule at Earl K. Long Gym on Friday when it plays host to Nicholls State in the nightcap of the inaugural Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic.

First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. The match between Louisiana (3-1) and Nicholls State (1-2) will follow the opening contest scheduled for 4 p.m. between Houston (3-1) and Alcorn State (0-2).

The four-team, two-day event concludes on Saturday with action beginning at 10 a.m. Live statistics for all matches will be available at RaginCajuns.com.

Louisiana (3-1), which finished 8-3 at home last season, plays the first of 12 matches on its home floor where it has won 26 matches in the past three years. The Ragin’ Cajuns capped off a four-match roadtrip on Tuesday with a straight-set victory over Alcorn State behind a match-high 11 kills from Lavinia Tataran.

Sara Mossakowski leads the Ragin’ Cajuns in kills per set (3.50) followed by Tataran (3.46), Kelly Wiesmann (2.00) and Tonice White (1.77). Andrea Hole leads Louisiana with 9.85 assists per set with Caitlyn Auxilien pacing the Ragin’ Cajuns with 4.54 digs per set.

Abby Filce and freshman Chanelle Gardner each lead Louisiana with five blocks each.

After facing Nicholls State in Friday’s nightcap, Louisiana will face Alcorn State in a rematch on Saturday at noon before wrapping up the tournament against Houston in a 6 p.m. contest.
