Volleyball: Auxilien Named Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player Of The Week

Matt Sullivan, Asst Sports Information Director, October 21, 2013

First Ragin’ Cajun to claim weekly award since 2010

NEW ORLEANS – After helping the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns volleyball team to victories over Georgia State and UALR, libero Caitlyn Auxilien was selected Monday as the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week in a release by the league office.

Auxilien, from Mandeville, averaged 5.0 digs per set last week for the Ragin’ Cajuns (15-8, 5-4 Sun Belt Conference). She opened the week with 25 digs, and added four assists and three service aces, in a come-from-behind five-set victory over visiting Georgia State on Friday.

"She has been playing consistently well throughout the season," head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot said. "She’s all business. No flash. Just steady all the time. We are very happy for her and hope to see many more to come."

The junior came back on Sunday in a four-set victory at then co-leader UALR, collecting 20 digs and dishing out a career-high tying five assists. The four-set victory was the third straight for the Ragin’ Cajuns and its second against the league co-leader in a week following a five-set thriller over No. 29 WKU on Oct. 13.

The selection of Auxilien, a former Fontainebleau High product, was the first for the Ragin’ Cajuns since the duo of Lindsay Brown (Defense) and Lesley Mirarchi (Offense) were selected on Sept. 27, 2010.
