LAFAYETTE-Sophomore Kayla Vice placed first in the women’s pole vault in Day 2 of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, earning 10 points for the UL women, putting them into eighth place. Vice recorded a season best height of 3.65 meters (11-11.75) to qualify for the NCAA Regional Meet. She earned 10 points with her win to help put the Cajuns into a current eighth place position. This marked the first Sun Belt individual championship for the Lafayette native. Also earning points for the UL women were Toni Lee and Kioloni Readeaux in the long jump, and Casey Brown in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Lee placed fifth in the long jump, recording a distance of 5.88 meters (19-03.50). She earned four points for the Cajuns. Readeaux placed seventh and earned two points with her jump of 5.82 meters (19-01.25). Brown placed seventh in the 3000 meter steeplechase earned two points for the Cajuns with her time of 11:42.25. In men’s action, D.J. Hebert placed sixth in the men’s 3000 meter steeplechase, recording a time of 9:40.74. He earned three points for the UL men. Regional qualifiers Justin Arceneaux and Stacey Fuller qualified for Sunday’s finals in the 100 meter dash and 400 meter dash respectively. Arceneaux finished his heat in 10.63 seconds to finish sixth in the prelims. Fuller finished seventh in the 400 meter prelims with a time of 47.10 seconds. The men are currently in ninth place with five points. Sunday’s action will consist of the remainder of the field events finals and running finals.
