University of Louisiana’s Jasmine Manuel and O’Daylon Thibeaux were named the Sun Belt Conference men and women’s Field Athletes of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, for their league-leading performances in the triple jump last weekend (April 8-9) at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Manuel, a junior from Hammond, set a school record on Friday, April 12 at the Texas Relays with a triple jump of 41-10 ¾ (12.77m). The junior broke the previous UL triple jump record of 41â??7 set by Cecilia Noel on March 29, 1997. Manuel finished second in the ‘B’ section and her mark ranks first in the Sun Belt Conference. The leap is 11th in the NCAA East Region and 19th in the nation. Tuesday’s award is the second for Manuel this season, after earning indoor Sun Belt Athlete of the Week accolades on Feb. 8. In his first outdoor appearance of the season, Thibeaux finished 10th in the triple jump ‘A’ section of the prestigious Texas Relays with a leap of 51-2 ¼ (15.60m). Thibeaux’s mark is nearly two feet better than his nearest Sun Belt competitor (49â??5 ¼/15.07m). The jump ranks 10th in the NCAA East Region and is 19th nationally. The weekly honor is the first of the season for the Kaplan native. The Ragin’ Cajuns return to action on Saturday, April 16 for the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational in Natchitoches. — Ragin’ Cajuns — ![]()
