Track & Field: Leleux Named SBC Women’s Field Student-Athlete Of The Year

NEW ORLEANS – After setting both the school and Sun Belt Conference record in the pole vault, Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns standout Morgann Leleux was named on Monday as the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Field Student-Athlete of the Year in a vote by the league’s head coaches.


 
Leleux, a New Iberia native and a five-time All-American at Georgia, shattered the school and SBC record in the pole vault in her first season as a Ragin’ Cajun. Leleux, ranked third in the NCAA East Region and fourth nationally for Louisiana in the pole vault, recorded a mark of 14 feet, 10 inches at the Sun Belt Conference Championships held last week at the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.
 
Arkansas State’s Jim Patchell was named the Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year with A-State’s Jaylen Bacon named the Sun Belt Men’s Track Student-Athlete of the Year and teammate Roelf Pienaar named the Men’s Field Student-Athlete of the Year.
 
Sean Collins of South Alabama was named the Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Freshman of the Year after winning his first outdoor track and field pole vault title.
 
South Alabama’s Paul Brueske was named the Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year after guiding the Jaguars to their first women’s outdoor track and field title since 1999.
 
A-State’s Kristina Knott claimed Women’s Track Student-Athlete of the Year honor for the second consecutive year while Texas State’s Tramesha Hardy was named the Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Freshman of the Year.
