Track & Field: Hrusoci, Leleux Named SBC Track Student-Athletes Of The Week
NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field athletes Alena Hrusoci and Morgann Leleux were named on Thursday as the Sun Belt Conference Student-Athletes of the Week in a release by the conference office. Hrusoci, a sophomore from Cakovec, Croatia, was named the Sun Belt Female Track Student-Athlete of the Week after becoming the first female athlete in school history to break the 1-minute barrier in the women’s 400-meter hurdles. Hrusoci, who ranks 37th nationally in the 400-meter hurdles, clocked a time of 58.73 seconds to finish first overall at the LSU Alumni Gold, breaking her previous record (1:00.08) set last season. Leleux, a senior from New Iberia, was named the Sun Belt Female Field Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this spring after setting a school-record in the pole vault. She set both the school and Bernie Moore Track Stadium record after clearing the bar at 14-9 ½ to finish first overall at the LSU Alumni Gold. The mark by Leleux – the fourth-best in the nation this spring – eclipsed the school record (14-1 ¾) she set last month at the Louisiana Classics and the Bernie Moore Stadium Track record (14-6 ¾) she set in 2012 as a freshman at Georgia. Louisiana will return to action on Saturday when it competes at the MSU Invitational in Starkville, Miss.
