Tankersley Named to WCWS Tournament Team
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.-Senior Holly Tankersley (Kirbyville, Texas) added yet
another accolade to her long list of credits on Tuesday night as she was
named to the 2008 Women’s College World Series All-Tournament Team.
The 12-player all-tournament team, which was announced at the conclusion of
the WCWS, featured five members from the champions Arizona State, two players
from runner-up Texas A&M, as well as, top-seed Florida. Louisiana, Alabama
and Virginia Tech each placed one player on the team.
The All-American outfielder belted two home runs during the Ragin’ Cajuns
three games at the WCWS including an extra-inning bomb to straight away
centerfield to lift the Cajuns to a 3-2 victory over No. 1 Florida.
She hit two of the nine total home runs belted at the WCWS. Tankersley
joined Florida’s Francesca Enea as the only two players this year to hit
multiple home runs at the Women’s College World Series.
Tankersley finished the season leading the Cajuns in batting average,
slugging percentage, on base percentage, runs scored, hits, RBI, triples and
home runs.
She finished the year one-thousandth of a point behind Danyele Gomez (2003-
06) for the top batting average in a season in school history at .441.
Tankersley also ranked in the Cajuns’ single season top-5 in base hits (86),
home runs (23), RBI (74), total bases (173), slugging percentage (.887) and
walks (44).
Tankersley finished her career in the Cajuns’ all-time top-5 in batting
average (.387), runs scored (218), home runs (71), RBI (231), total bases
(530), slugging percentage (.756), walks (157) and hit by pitch (28).
