Softball: Orgeron and Wallace Head List of All-Tournament Honors

The Ragin’ Cajuns had six players recognized on the 8th Annual Mardi Gras Invitational All-Tournament Team.
 
Christi Orgeron and Jordan Wallace were awarded Co-MVP’s of the tournament, while Ashley Brignac, Matte Haack, Erikka Murphy, and Katie Smith joining them on the All-Tournament Team.
 
Orgeron finished the weekend leading the team with a .615 batting average, four homeruns, 15 RBI, nine runs, 22 total bases, 1.692 slugging percentage and an on base percentage of .625. Orgeron’s 15 RBI were more than any other team combined in the tournament-Louisiana Tech and Northwestern each combined to drive in 12 runs as a team.
 
Wallace was 2-0 in the tournament, with a 1.00 earned run average and held opposing hitters to a .100 batting average. The freshman hurled her first career no-hitter in a 9-0 win over Louisiana Tech on Sunday. Wallace threw a total of nine innings and struck out 12 hitters, while allowing just three hits and one earned run.
 
Brignac also finished the weekend undefeated with a 2-0 record and led the team with 16 strikeouts and 13 innings pitched. The Senior finished with a 2.77 ERA and had two complete games, with one being a shutout.
 
Haack hit her first two homeruns as a Ragin’ Cajun over the weekend and finished up with a .417 batting average, seven RBI, 11 total bases, .917 slugging percentage and posted an on base percentage of .500.
 
Murphy was the only UL player to record a double and a triple in the four games. The Senior recorded a .455 batting average, a slugging percentage of .727, .538 on base percentage and was a perfect 2-of-2 in stolen bases.
 
Smith set the table for the Cajuns, leading off in three of the four ballgames. Smith hit .385 in the tournament, while reaching base at a rate of .500 and was 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts.
 
The Cajuns return to action next weekend as they travel to Clearwater, Fla. to participate in the NFCA Leadoff Classic. Louisiana is set to play Mississippi State, Hofstra, Boston University, Michigan, and Winthrop in the tournament.
