Soccer: Cajuns Have Three Named To All-Louisiana TeamHAMMOND, La. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team had three players named to the All-Louisiana Women’s Soccer Collegiate Teams, as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association announced on Sunday.
Senior midfielder Yazmin Montoya and junior defender Ashleigh Cade were named to the First Team while senior forward Mackenzie Higgins was Honorable Mention. Montoya, who also earned First Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors, finished second overall for Louisiana (8-9-2, 4-4-2 SBC) in goals (5), assists (4) and points (14). The West Covina, Calif. native finished eighth in the league in goals scored and was tied for sixth in assists. The three-year captain is the current Ragin’ Cajuns leader in points (67), goals (26) and assists (15). Cade led the SBC and ranked third in the NCAA at the end of the regular season with 11 total assists. Higgins led the Cajuns and was tied for fourth in the SBC with eight goals. She was seventh in the SBC in total points (17). Louisiana Tech senior forward Kathryn Sloan was named the LSWA Women’s Soccer Player of the Year. Sloan was one of five honorees to receive individual honors. LSU defender/midfielder Marlena Cutura was named Freshman of the Year, while LSU Alexandria junior forward Rhiannon Castle was tabbed the state’s Newcomer of the Year. Louisiana Tech’s Kevin Sherry and Northwestern State’s George Van Linder shared Coach of the Year honors.
